Read aloud

A trade-show booth in Los Angeles, an admissions office at a London university, and a customs desk in Sydney all move at a pace that leaves little room to search for the right English word. Mingle converts your spoken Chinese into English captions and a natural voice readback in real time, so the person across the counter, table, or phone line hears complete English sentences instead of a translated word list. A session runs in one direction; when they answer in English, tap swap in the language menu to start a new session from English into Chinese, then tap the mic again. No second app, and no passing a phone back and forth to type.

Perfect for real conversations

Chinese speakers moving through English-speaking settings meet a different problem than in the reverse direction. Chinese has no verb tenses, no plural endings and no articles: time, number and definiteness come from context and from words like 了, 们 and 这个. English insists on all three in every sentence, and a hospital desk in Toronto or a counter in Orlando expects them. Mingle builds that English from your natural Mandarin, so you are not assembling tenses and plurals in your head under pressure.

  • The Los Angeles trade-show booth

You explain your factory's lead times and minimum order quantity in Mandarin while a buyer from Los Angeles reads English captions and hears a natural voice readback. When the buyer comes back with price questions in English, tap swap in the language menu to start an English-to-Chinese session, so each figure reaches you as Chinese captions before you answer.

  • The London university admissions office

An admissions officer asks about your transcripts, your visa and your accommodation. You answer in Chinese, and Mingle captions and speaks it in English so the officer hears whole sentences rather than isolated words. For the follow-up questions, swap the session so their English becomes Chinese captions you can read calmly, one direction at a time.

  • The Sydney airport customs desk

The officer asks what you are bringing in and how long you will stay. You answer in Mandarin and the officer hears clear English. To check the wording of a declaration form or a question you did not catch, swap to an English-to-Chinese session and read the Chinese captions before you reply.

  • Clear Captions

Clean, accurate English captions as you speak.

  • Conversational Speed

Keeps up with natural real-world dialogue.

  • Read-Aloud Support

Hear English naturally when you need to.

The earbud moment: they talk to your phone, you hear your language

Set your phone on the table facing them and turn on Read aloud. Their voice goes into your phone’s mic; the translation plays quietly in your earbuds. Private, hands-free, no shouting into a gadget.

Any wired or Bluetooth earbuds your phone uses should work, because read-aloud plays through the phone’s normal audio output. If your phone switches to the earbuds’ microphone, choose the built-in mic under Devices so it hears them, not you.

Want them to hear you too? Tap Share session and show them the QR code: they join on their own phone in their own language, so each of you reads and hears the other without passing anything back and forth. On one phone, swap the languages from the session menu to reply instead.

What makes English different

Chinese is not one uniform voice, and a short sentence can carry a lot. A subject is often left out, and a polite "that may be difficult" can mean no. Mingle translates the Mandarin you actually say, so the English may add a subject or soften or sharpen a phrase; read the English caption before a refusal, an agreement or a price goes out.

Watch the caption pane as your safety rail. A name has no single obvious Latin spelling: a family name may appear as Zhang, Chang or Cheung depending on the system used, and Chinese puts the family name first while English forms usually put it last, so a booking, a boarding pass, or a visa form may not match the order you spoke. Numbers need the same care: Chinese groups large figures by ten thousand, not by thousand, and dates run year, month, day where US forms often run month, day, year. For a name, a date, a dose, or a confirmation code, read the English text on screen rather than relying on the audio alone, spell it letter by letter when it matters, and swap to an English-to-Chinese session whenever you want their reply back in Chinese captions to check before you answer.

This page covers Chinese → English specifically

This guide covers Chinese → English specifically: the direction Chinese-speaking exporters, students, patients, and families rely on when they need to be understood clearly in English without years of conversational practice first. The shared caption screen lets your English-speaking counterpart read exactly what you meant, while Read Aloud lets you hear their reply privately through earbuds before you respond.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Chinese to English translation.

Will Mingle understand my accent, or only standard Mandarin?

Speak the way you normally do. The English captions show what was understood, so check a key sentence on screen before a sensitive reply, and repeat a name, a number or a place if the caption looks wrong.

Will names and numbers come out correctly in English?

Check them on screen. A Chinese name can be spelled several ways in Latin letters, and large numbers are grouped differently: Chinese counts in units of ten thousand (万), so 三万 is 30,000. The live caption pane shows the English as it is produced, so you can confirm a price, a date or a flight number, and spell a name letter by letter when it matters.

Can I follow the English speaker's reply without asking them to slow down?

Tap swap in the language menu to start a new English-to-Chinese session, then tap the mic. Their English becomes Chinese captions, and with Read Aloud on, spoken Mandarin in your earbuds, so you are not relying on your own listening speed at a busy counter or on a phone line.

Do I need to install anything before a trip or a call with English-language support?

No. Open mingle.fit in your phone's browser, allow the microphone, and start talking. Guest sessions work with no account; signing in adds saved history so you can revisit confirmation numbers or meeting notes from either direction later.

Do both people need the app?

No. Everything runs in the browser. For a conversation both ways, tap Share session and show the QR code: they join on their own phone in their language, with no app and no account. On one shared phone, a session translates one direction, and you swap the languages from the session menu when they reply.

Is Mingle free to try for this language pair?

Yes — start instantly with free guest sessions, no card and no install. Paid plans unlock longer sessions and saved history.
