Lectura en voz alta

A skincare shop in Myeongdong, a taxi rank at Jeju airport, a clinic reception desk in Gangnam, a booth at a Seoul trade fair: each of these moves faster than a phrasebook allows. Mingle takes the Mandarin you speak and turns it into Korean captions and optional spoken output as you talk, so the shop assistant, driver or buyer hears complete Korean sentences. A session runs in one direction only, from Chinese into Korean. When the other person answers, use the swap in the session menu: the session ends, the captions clear, a new Korean-to-Chinese session opens, and one more tap on the mic gets it listening.

Ideal para conversaciones reales

There is one honest limitation to know about before you go. Korean is written in Hangul, a phonetic alphabet of 24 basic letters that most Chinese readers have never studied, and Hangul does not look like Chinese characters at all. The Korean captions on your own screen are therefore for the person facing you, not for you. What helps is read-aloud, which speaks the Korean through the phone speaker so the other person hears it as well as reads it, and the swap, which gives you their reply as Chinese text you can read at your own pace.

  • The Myeongdong skincare counter

You ask in Mandarin which cream suits dry skin, whether there is a travel size, and what the total comes to. The shop assistant hears Korean and reads Hangul captions on your phone. When she answers, swap the languages from the session menu and tap the mic: her Korean turns into Chinese captions you can read, and with read-aloud on you can hear it in your earbuds as well.

  • The Jeju taxi from the airport

You say the hotel name and ask how long the ride will take. The driver hears it in Korean without you pointing at a booking screen. Taxi talk is quick and clipped, so keep each sentence short, and swap before the driver's reply so that the fare and the route come back to you as Chinese text.

  • The Seoul trade-fair booth

A buyer walks up and asks about minimum order quantity and lead time. You answer in Mandarin and your answer arrives in Korean. When the buyer counters with a price per unit, swap directions so the figure appears in Chinese on your screen before you agree to anything.

Mandarin and Korean are unrelated in grammar. Chinese puts the verb in the middle of the sentence; Korean puts it last, after the object, and attaches small particles to nouns to mark who does what. Korean also builds respect into every verb ending. The polite 해요체 and the more formal 합쇼체 are the two levels you will meet most often from shop staff, clinic receptionists and business partners, and Mandarin gives you no habit of choosing one, because Chinese verbs do not change for politeness. Mingle chooses the rendering for you, so the Korean may sound more or less formal than your Chinese. When tone matters, such as a complaint, a refund or a price discussion, keep your sentences short and plain, and read the Chinese reply after a swap to see how it landed.

Chinese speakers get a head start on vocabulary, but also a trap. A large share of Korean words are of Chinese origin, such as 학교 (school) and 전화 (telephone), and Sino-Korean words often map to Chinese words you already know. The pronunciation is very different, though, so a word you recognise in writing will not be recognisable by ear, and Korean rarely uses Chinese characters on signs. Where they do appear they are traditional forms, which simplified readers may not recognise either. Numbers need care as well. Korean uses a native set (하나, 둘, 셋) for counting items and a Sino-Korean set (일, 이, 삼) for prices, dates and phone numbers. Both languages count large sums in units of ten thousand, written 만 in Korean, which helps with prices but still deserves a glance at the written figure before you pay.

Preguntas frecuentes

Preguntas frecuentes

Todo lo que necesitas saber sobre la traducción de Chino a Coreano.

Can I check the Korean captions myself if I cannot read Hangul?

Not directly, and it is worth planning for. During a Chinese-to-Korean session the captions are in Hangul, which is there for the person you are talking to. Your own checks are indirect: turn on read-aloud so the other person hears spoken Korean as well as reading it, keep sentences short, and watch whether the answer they give makes sense. For the answer itself, swap to a Korean-to-Chinese session and read it in Chinese.

Is a Chinese name written the same way in Korean?

Not necessarily. Korean writes a name in Hangul syllables, and the spelling can differ from your pinyin or from the way an earlier form was filled in. For a booking, a clinic registration or a university form, rely on the passport spelling, show it on paper, and read the Hangul on screen with the other person rather than assuming it matches.

Do the numbers I say in Chinese come out the same in Korean?

Spoken numbers are worth confirming on screen. Korean counts with two systems, one for things and hours and one for prices, dates and phone numbers, so the same figure can be pronounced differently depending on what it measures. Chinese and Korean both group large amounts by ten thousand, so 三万 and 3만 line up, but check any price in writing before paying.

Do I need an account or a Korean phone number to use it in Korea?

No. Open mingle.fit in your phone's browser, allow the microphone and start. Guests can begin without an account or a card. Signing in adds saved history and longer paid-plan usage. You do need an internet connection, since there is no offline mode.

How do I hear what the Korean speaker says back?

Use the swap in the session menu. It ends the current session, clears the captions and starts a new one in the opposite direction, Korean to Chinese. Tap the mic again, let them speak, and read the Chinese captions or listen through read-aloud on the phone speaker or earbuds.

¿Ambas personas necesitan la app?

No. Todo funciona en el navegador. Para conversar en ambas direcciones, toca «Compartir la conversación» y muestra el código QR: la otra persona se une desde su propio teléfono en su idioma, sin app y sin cuenta. En un solo teléfono compartido, cada sesión de traducción va en una dirección, y cuando la otra persona responde intercambias los idiomas desde el menú de la conversación.
