読み上げ

Spanish and Mandarin share almost nothing: no common vocabulary to lean on, a different script, and a sound system where pitch decides meaning. Yet the conversations between them are everyday ones: a buyer from Latin America haggling at a trade fair booth in Guangzhou, an exporter in Chile showing a visiting buyer how the fruit is packed, a traveler from Spain trying to explain an allergy at a pharmacy in Shanghai. Mingle takes your spoken Spanish and turns it into Simplified Chinese captions and a natural Mandarin voice in real time, in the browser of any phone or computer. Nothing to install for either of you; just allow the microphone.

実際の会話にぴったり

A session translates in one direction, from Spanish into Chinese. To read the other person's answer in Spanish, tap swap in the language menu: the session ends, the captions clear, and a new Chinese-to-Spanish session opens. Tap the mic again and their Mandarin appears as Spanish captions, with optional read-aloud that can play through earbuds. You can start as a guest with no account and no card; signing in keeps a history of each session. Mingle needs an internet connection, so check your data or Wi-Fi before an important meeting, especially when travelling.

  • The sample table at the Canton Fair

A buyer from Monterrey or Bogotá stands at a supplier's booth in Guangzhou with a phone on the table. She asks in Spanish about the unit price, the minimum order and how long a sample takes, and the sales rep reads Simplified Chinese captions and hears Mandarin. When the rep answers, she swaps the languages in the session menu, taps the mic again and reads the reply in Spanish, checking every figure written in 万 before she writes it in her notebook. Hall Wi-Fi or mobile data has to be working for any of this.

  • The cold room at a packing house in Chile

An exporter walks a buyer from Shanghai through grading, packing and the cold room, explaining in Spanish which sizes go in which box and when the container leaves the port. The buyer follows the Chinese captions on the exporter's phone. For the buyer's questions about shipping dates, the session is swapped to Chinese into Spanish, and the dates are read twice: Chinese writes year, month, day.

  • The pharmacy counter in Shanghai

A traveler from Madrid wakes up with a fever and a sore throat. At the pharmacy he describes his symptoms and his penicillin allergy in Spanish, and the pharmacist reads them in Chinese on his screen. To understand the dosage, he swaps to a Chinese-to-Spanish session and listens to the read-aloud through his earbuds while the Spanish captions stay on screen to reread at the hotel.

Mandarin uses tones. The same syllable said with a different pitch contour is a different word: mā is "mother", má is "hemp", mǎ is "horse" and mà is "curse". The language has only about 400 distinct syllables before tone is counted, so homophones are common; in normal speech two-syllable words and context clear most of them up. The weak spots are short items: a one-syllable surname, a single number, a yes-or-no answer. Your Spanish is spoken into Chinese characters, and characters do not share the ambiguity of sound, so for names, quantities and addresses the caption is the reference, not the voice.

Names work the other way round from Spanish. A Chinese name starts with the surname, which is usually one character, followed by a given name of one or two characters, and married women traditionally keep their own surname. Pinyin, the official romanization, is how the name appears in Latin letters on a passport; in phrasebooks it carries tone marks such as ā or ǎ. If you carry two surnames, say which one belongs on the invoice, the booking or the shipping documents.

Numbers are where deals slip. Chinese groups large figures by 万 (ten thousand) and 亿 (a hundred million), so 50,000 units is 五万 and 1,000,000 is 一百万. Chinese also needs a measure word between a number and a noun, so say the unit in Spanish (cajas, piezas, kilos) and the translation has something concrete to work with. Dates run year, month, day, the opposite of Spanish, and schedules and notices use the 24-hour clock.

Chinese verbs carry no tense, and spoken 他 and 她 (he and she) are both tā. Formal and informal "you" exist, 您 and 你, but Mingle has no formality setting, so the register follows how you phrase things. Speak with the courtesy you would use anyway, add a time word when timing matters, and read the Chinese on screen together before you sign, pay or swallow a pill.

This guide covers Spanish → Chinese only: what changes between the two languages, and where you should look at the screen instead of trusting your ears.

よくある質問

よくあるご質問

スペイン語から中国語への翻訳について知っておきたいことをまとめました。

Will the other person hear Mandarin or Cantonese?

Mandarin. Mingle has one Chinese setting: the captions are in Simplified Chinese characters and the read-aloud speaks Mandarin. There is no Cantonese option. Someone who grew up reading Traditional characters, as in Taiwan, Hong Kong or Macau, will see the Simplified forms on screen.

How do I get a Chinese name right, and how will mine come out?

Chinese names put the surname first, and that surname is usually a single syllable, so Wang Li is Mr. or Ms. Wang. Because one syllable is easy to mishear, ask the person to check the characters in the caption, or to show you the name in pinyin. For your own name, say which surname goes on an invoice or a booking: a Chinese form usually has room for one, not for both of yours.

Why did "cien mil" turn into 十万?

Chinese counts large numbers in units of ten thousand (万, wàn) and a hundred million (亿, yì). One hundred thousand is 十万, literally ten wàn, and a million is 一百万, a hundred wàn. Nothing went wrong, but it is the moment where a zero gets lost in a negotiation, so read big prices and quantities on screen with the other person before you agree.

Will Chinese keep my verb tense and whether I said he or she?

Chinese verbs do not change for past or future: time comes from words like "yesterday" or "next week". If timing matters, say it ("ayer", "el próximo martes") rather than relying on the verb ending. In writing, he and she are different characters, 他 and 她, but both are pronounced tā, so the gender shows in the captions, not in the read-aloud.

What do I need on the day?

A phone or laptop with a browser and a working internet connection, through mobile data or Wi-Fi. Open mingle.fit, allow the microphone and start a guest session with no account and no card. Signing in adds saved history, handy for looking up an address, a quote or a pharmacy instruction afterwards.
